Spring has sprung and that can only mean one thing…Spring Cleaning!
One major part of any good spring-cleaning regimen is home maintenance. And this is the perfect time to assess any damage that may have occurred during the cold winter months.
Roof Maintenance and Inspection Tips
Roof Inspection: Look for the outward signs of roof damage. These include:
- Ceiling Spots
- Damaged Flashing
- Missing Shingles
- Shingle Curling
- Algae Growth
|
- Blistering
- Missing Granules
- Buckling
- Rotting
|
Then look for the interior signs of roof damage, which include:
- Sagging Decking Between Rafters
- Light Shining Through the Roof
- Leaking
Roof Maintenance: If you witness any of the above warning signs, you should call a professional roofing contractor – like Atlantic Remodeling – as soon as possible. Any delay in dealing with a warning sign of roof damage could result in a major roofing problem and the need for expensive roof repairs and even a new roof.

Residents of the Mid-Atlantic area, especially Marylanders, know just how inconsistent the weather can be in this part of the country. In 2009 and 2010, Maryland suffered two of its worst winters ever. Then, in 2011, we had one of the mildest winters in recent history.
Maryland is one of the few states in the U.S. that experiences violent thunderstorms, the harshest winters, the hottest summers, and everything in between. And because of this, Maryland homeowners…and their roofs…need to be ready for anything!
These extreme swings in weather can do a lot of damage to your Maryland roof – ripping away roof shingles, causing roof leaks, and leaving your roof in disrepair.
If this happens, you have two choices…
- 1. Leave your roof the way it is.
- 2. Call the roofing experts at Atlantic Remodeling!

THE ATLANTIC REMODELING CORPORATION ANNOUNCES OPENING OF FREDERICK OFFICE
Company’s Fifth Regional Office Will Expand Services to Western Maryland, West Virginia
Baltimore, Maryland (March 20, 2012) – The Atlantic Remodeling Corporation President and CEO, Bertram Lebhar, IV, today announces the opening of the company’s fifth regional office in Frederick, Maryland. The company expects to create 40-50 new jobs at its Frederick location, providing a boost to the local economy while creating professional opportunity for dozens within Frederick’s greater community.
The Atlantic Remodeling Corporation currently provides residential remodeling services from Philadelphia (PA) to Southern New Jersey to Fredericksburg (VA). This is the first time the company has extended its reach into the western portions of the mid-Atlantic market. “We are very excited about our expansion,” says Lebhar. “We are proud to be hiring new employees from the region and look forward to bringing the highest quality home remodeling services to Frederick and beyond.”
“By opening our newest regional location, we will be able to serve clients in Maryland’s Frederick and Washington Counties, West Virginia’s Jefferson County and homes in the northern Virginia and southern Pennsylvania regions. Because we work
with so many quality manufacturers, we have the ability to uniquely tailor projects to meet the resource needs of each consumer.” says Lebhar. The company’s other regional offices are located in Baltimore and Beltsville, MD, Newark, DE and Fairfax, VA.
While The Atlantic Remodeling Corporation uses only the highest grade materials and products from some of the most recognized names in the building supply industry, they are perhaps best known for their RED CENT GUARANTEE, which ensures homeowner satisfaction before payment. Regardless of contract size, The Atlantic Remodeling Corporation guarantees its work with the promise that customers will not pay “one red cent” until the job is completed to satisfaction. Lebhar embraces this sound business practice because he believes that trust is earned one job at a time no matter how long a company has been in business; installation team members have all have been certified by The American Architectural
Manufacturers Association.
The Atlantic Remodeling Corporation has been prestigiously named as a Big50 company by Remodeling Magazine; fewer than 1,200 companies nationwide have been recognized as a Big50 leader since the award was first presented in 1986. Among many business and community-based accolades, Lebhar has also been honored as an Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year finalist.

When it comes to your roof, you have three options:
- 1. Be proactive and conduct annual roof maintenance
- 2. Wait until you see the first signs of a roofing problem before acting
- 3. Wait until a major roofing incident occurs
But why wait until the last minute? Take proactive measures to prevent a leaky roof and expensive repairs. Not only will annual maintenance keep your roof looking its best, but, in the long run, it will also save you money. Annual maintenance will prevent most major (and expensive) catastrophes and will extend the useful life of your roof.
Roof Maintenance Check List
- 1. Check for possible problem areas – both inside and out.
- 2. Inspect the interior of your roof for signs of water damage or signs of light shining through.
- 3. Inspect the exterior of your roof. But, for safety reasons, walk your roof only when it is completely dry.
- 4. Look for an accumulation of natural debris, like fallen tree limbs, branches, leaves, etc.
- 5. Look for damaged or missing shingles.
If you are unsure about what you are looking for, call Atlantic Remodeling and have one of our roofing experts take a look at your roof. We will be able to advise you as to the best course of action. The solution may be much easier than you expect!
Roof Repair Options
- 1. Do-it-Yourself
- 2. Call Atlantic Remodeling!
While option #1 may seem like the most affordable choice, consider that unprofessional, inferior workmanship may end up costing you more when you have to pay a professional roofer to come out and fix your mistakes. So do yourself a favor and give Atlantic Remodeling a call!
If you have any questions about Roof Maintenance, please contact Atlantic Remodeling by calling 1-888-733-2368 or visit our website!
At Atlantic Remodeling, we believe the proof is in the pudding. Our trademarked “RED CENT GUARANTEE” ensures homeowner satisfaction each and every time we do a job. Regardless of contract size, we back our work with the promise that you will not pay Atlantic Remodeling one “red cent” until the job is completed to your satisfaction.

There comes a time in every homeowners life when they come to the realization that simple roof maintenance will no longer cut it. When this happens, it means only one thing…it is time for a new roof.
Even with regular maintenance, timely repairs, and quality workmanship, roofs eventually reach the end of their lifespan. But how can you tell when roof repair is no longer feasible? How do you know when you NEED a new roof? Well, the answer lies with a few more questions.
In order to determine if it is time to replace your roof, ask yourself the following questions:
1. What are your long-term goals for the building? What makes sense for a building you are about to sell doesn’t necessarily make sense for a long-range investment.
2. Should you remove the existing roof or go over it? The roofing experts at Atlantic Remodeling can help you here, explaining the pros and cons of this question.
3. Does the roof collect standing water? If so, you must address this drainage issue to prevent future problems.
Benefits of a New Roof
Instant Curb Appeal: Realtors estimate that as much as 40 percent of your home’s curb appeal is directly linked to your roof.
Increase Energy Efficiency: Your old roof undoubtedly lets warm air escape from your home, making your HVAC system work twice as hard to accomplish your desired indoor temperature.
Prevent Mold: Old, leaky roofs help transform your attic into the perfect breeding ground for mold and mildew.
Great Return on Investment (ROI): Roof replacement actually boasts one of the higher returns on investment, 67%.
Better Resale Value: If you are planning on selling your home in the near future, a new roof will make your home much more desirable and, thus, easier to sell.
If you have any questions about Roof Replacement, please contact Atlantic Remodeling by calling 1-888-733-2368 or visit our website!

Time and time again, we hear the question: “Can I install my roof on my own?” And the answer is quite simple; of course you CAN install your own roof, but you should really leave your roof to the professionals.
Benefits of a Professional Roofer
- Roofing Experience: A roofing contractor can pinpoint the exact cause of your leak. You probably cannot. In fact, did you know that not all leaks that appear to be roof leaks are actually are roof leaks? So instead of giving up a few of your pressure weekends replacing your roof only to find that the problem lies elsewhere, leave the roofing to the roofing experts.
- Speed: Replacing your roof often involves removing the old roof, exposing your home to inclement weather. This is why roofing contractors have specialized crews of eight to ten men who can remove and install a new roof in a single day.
- Labor: The average roof if 1800 square feet. A bundle of low end shingles weighs about 85 lbs. So are you ready to carry seventy two 85 lb. bundles onto your roof?
- Garbage Disposal: A professional roofing contractor will deal with the removal of any and all debris, meaning you won’t have to!
- Safety: Roofers know what they are doing. You do not. So before you take a step onto your sloped roof, consider hiring a professional contractor.

Also known as a layover roof, re-roofing describes the process of installing a second layer of shingles over the first. This can be done for several reasons – whether you need a re-roofing because your shingles are damaged or if you just want to re-roof to give your home a face-lift. It doesn’t matter what the reason, Atlantic Remodeling is here for you.
Advantages of Re-Roofing
- Instant Curb Appeal: A new roof can make your home look like new.
- Save Time: You can start the layover roof without removing the old roof.
- Save Money: Tearing down your old roof can be costly.
- Avoid Mess: No demolitions means little mess.
- Reduce Maintenance Costs: Re-roofing prevents tiny roofing issues from becoming major roofing problems.
- Easier to Sell: If your roof is more than 20 years old and you are thinking of putting your home on the market soon, you may want to consider re-roofing your home.
- Increase Property Value: And who doesn’t want that!?
As you can see, there are many benefits of a layover roof. However, not all homes are candidates for this roofing service. Conditions that may prevent you from installing a layover roof include:
- 1) If you already have one layover roof: Most building codes allow for one layover roof (or maximum of two roofs) on a structure.
- 2) The roof structure (roof frame) is not strong enough: Do an inside inspection and an outside inspection to determine if your roof frame is strong enough to support a second roof. If you see signs of sagging, rotten or decaying ridgelines, hip lines or decking, remove the old roof and repair the frame before installing the new roof.
- 3) If your existing roof has any of the following problems: Peeled, curled, cupped, split or otherwise damaged shingles; moss growth; missing shingles; or your new shingles are lighter than the old shingles allowing the bumps and lines to show through the new layer.
- 4) If you live in an extremely cold climate: If the average temperature during winter months is below freezing, an overlay roof will increase the chance of Ice Dams.
If you are in the market for re-roofing or a completely a new roof, please contact Atlantic Remodeling by calling 1-888-733-2368 or visit our website!
